about

BLACK TAHINI [a vernacular of being]

“We are our own demons.”
- Roland Barthes

When we get to the heart of it, beyond the landscapes of the scraps and ideas of culture we find ourselves delayed by what we learn. for the artist this nuance of meander, of achievement plays by a dominating physics that has nothing to do with the learned. It is forged by experience.

The man that I met a decade/more ago was prodigy. Was university educated, was a professor, was a teacher. The music he made then was fire, was diverse. Had passion. This music has all those things, and something more, a layer extra of the gunk, the mass black of a soul fighting and living.

The way that Jah Nada channels his curiosity, his passions, his need to evolve with the moment makes me seek his music like air. There is a magic when we tell the truth. There is a magic.

[an if the liner notes were a poem.]
Le Fou

1.
I’m seeking an under achievement
for I tap the Bar way
before last call.
wander bout
a fool in revelry

i am a whiskey revolt.
a tumult around clowns
they Jane was a hip gal
she ain’t snortin’ off the cat hair,
and he ain’t callin’ boo

[she cut him straight]

Its a darkened sweetmeat sass say
his shirt all tucked in and lean.
he such a round thing, reading.
roost er’ let go.
pints are way signs for the fucktard.

2.
An under achievement
I do not tap, three more
before last call.
wander ‘bout
a fool inside a man

i am a whiskey revolt.
a tumult around clowns
Jane before was a hip gal
I never hit her like them ‘fore

met me.
a drunk boy
least I never punch her face.
she cut me if I ever did.
